Is being obsessed good?

I’m obsessed with an actor, and I’ve had other obsessions too. (I’m 13.) When I was a kid, I used to love cats and meow and act like one, but that faded off when I matured a little. After that I got the usual teenage celebrity crush (for six months), and now I’m obsessed with this actor. :3 I personally feel that I have gotten a little happier, I don’t know why, I laugh easier now, I do crazy things when his songs come on the radio (like jumping up and down and singing along and stuff), I talk to the TV when I’m watching his movies (mainly talking to him), and I get freaked out when something bad happens to him in the movie. (I totally spazzed in one scene from his movie, I ran away from the TV, jumped up and down, left and right, started saying “WTF” out loud, ran into another room and hid, and slowly tried to peek out. And my heart was racing all along. Oh, and when he does something stupid (be it in the movie or in real), I always feel like slapping him, but I always smile afterward. Sometimes I feel like hugging him, and some of his songs make me feel good. :D So, uh, is it good to be obsessed?

Obsession can be harmless but can also be dangerous. I’ve seen people follow some pretty bizarre ideals based on some idol they worship’s opinion. Myself, I take no idols because I don’t want to be lured into any evil false ideologies.

For starters, no, obsessions are not something good to have.

Sometimes we say “i’m obsessed with this and that”, casually in our everyday lives. These are usually not obsessions in the clinical sense of the term. I’m not sure you are actually obsessing. You certainly have a tendency to devote a great deal of attention to this actor, or earlier in your life to cats..If you feel that this behavior is a problem for you (eg your schoolwork suffers, you have no time to see your friends, you are constantly thinking about this particular thing at the expense of other important things), then yes it is a problem that needs to be taken care of. If not, then it’s just a phase you’re going through and not a problem. I suggest you talk about this with someone, your parents, or the school counsellor. Adults who care can tell you if there is a need to worry or not.

I will aenswr more questions later, especially because the research on Luther and the songs origins seem so interesting. However, its getting late tonight! God bless all of you.
